THE“ red variety from the Burgenland used to make exceptional wines with unique character. It reaches perfect maturity just in the best plots.

Origin: The terraced vineyard of Jois has first been officially mentioned in 1214 and has been

awarded the privilege of an indicated origin since 1524. The parcel is one of the oldest officially recognized vineyard plots. After laying idle for decades, the vineyard‘s terraces have been reconstructed by Umathum winery in 2001 with 15.000 working hours and this unique place has been replanted with vines

Exposition and soil:Vineyard is wind protected facing south east. This is the only parcel in Burgenland which is dominated by schist and influenced by the lake, on of the best and most impressing vineyards of Burgenland.

Age of the vines The vines had been replanted in 2001. Already the young vines were showing the high potential of the plot.

Harvest :Picked and selected by hand in September 2018. In the cellar berries went through optic selecting machineFermentation         Fermentation on the skins in order to extract the red colour and the tannins of the grapes.

After three weeks the young wine is moved to barrique barrels where malolactic fermentation takes place.

Finishing and bottling The wine ages for more than 24 months in small oak barrels in order to obtain maturity and stability before bottling. After barrel aging Kirschgarten is bottled and matured in a bottle for another few years in oder to harmonize and reach perfect maturity.

Description Brilliant ruby red colour, on the nose dark cherry note with impressions of blackberries

and graphite aromas, that is reflected on the palate, full body wine with smooth and long finish.

Storage potential 10- 30 years if stored properly (12- 14°C)

Food recommendation Traditional dishes, all kind of meat, hard cheese and mushrooms.

Drinking temperature: This wine should not be drunk too warm.

Serving it at the 16°C-18°C will show its perfect expression of fine fruit.
